The VAAST E/1 introduced a new approach to comfort and suspension within the urban e-bike category. Developed in collaboration with suspension engineer Darrell Voss of NAILD, the bike featured an innovative system that decoupled the seat tube and bottom bracket from the rest of the frame.

This central “spine” moves independently within the rigid outer frame, isolating the seated rider from road impacts while maintaining a stable chassis. It also houses the Bosch in-tube battery, which slides out beneath the seatpost. This configuration positions the battery low and centrally within the bike, helping create a balanced center of gravity.

The design challenge was to make the complexity of the suspension system visually disappear, allowing the rider to focus on the bicycle’s clean and intuitive form. A smooth, uninterrupted line flows from the head tube to the rear dropout—an appearance more commonly associated with a rigid frame. For a full-suspension e-bike, this gave the E/1 an exceptionally clean and cohesive profile.
